Multilingual Websites for Manufacturers: Product Catalogs, Content and Launch Scope

A practical planning guide based on a three-language industrial product catalog: what buyers need, what content to prepare and what to check before launch.

Start with the buyer’s questions

A manufacturer website needs to help a buyer decide whether a product is relevant before asking for a quotation. Machine photographs alone rarely explain the operation, capacity, available variants or information needed for a useful sales conversation.

In my HRB Makina project, the catalog presented industrial food-processing and roasting machinery in Turkish, English and Russian. Product pages combined technical capacity information, variant choices and working videos. The useful first question was what a buyer needed to compare, not how many visual effects the site could contain.

Prepare a product content sheet before development

For each product, collect a consistent description, specifications, supported variants and media. Agree on which values are verified and how your team will update them. If catalog data is incomplete, a polished design cannot make it more useful.

A shared content structure makes it easier to keep language versions aligned. The HRB Makina implementation used one product-data source with language-specific pages. When one specification changes, its other language versions need review rather than silent divergence.

  • Product name, intended operation and the information needed to evaluate suitability.
  • Capacity tables with units and any conditions that change the stated values.
  • Variant names, dimensions and material options where they apply.
  • Images and videos showing the actual product; ownership and publication permission for supplied media.
  • A clear next step: which details to send when asking for a quotation.

Treat each language as a complete visitor journey

A multilingual website should let someone read the product description, understand the specifications and contact the business in the chosen language. Translating the header while leaving critical product information unchanged creates an incomplete journey.

I use separate language URLs and link equivalent pages. Canonicals and hreflang annotations describe the relationship between versions. Translations still require suitable terminology and review: those tags cannot correct misleading product descriptions.

Plan enquiries around the product

A useful enquiry contains the product or variant, intended use and relevant requirements. Decide whether your team needs a phone call, a WhatsApp conversation, an email or a structured request. These contact options should be visible on mobile and remain available while comparing products.

Before launch, test the complete path from a product listing to the detail page and then to the contact action. A live link is only one part of the check; the recipient and any prepared message also need to be correct.

What affects scope, price and maintenance?

Page count, languages, catalog complexity, editing tools and external integrations affect the quote. Translation work, media preparation, domain, hosting and ongoing maintenance should be explicitly assigned. A starting price is not a promise that every catalog or integration is included.

If replacing an existing website, inventory the old URLs before changing the structure. Equivalent pages can be connected with permanent redirects. This keeps visitors following older links from arriving at a missing page.

Launch checks and measurement

My launch checklist includes language-switch links, mobile tables, video playback, contact actions, canonical URLs and sitemap entries. Performance results need their device and test conditions; a framework does not guarantee one fixed score for every website.

After launch, measure product-page impressions, enquiries and the countries or languages reaching the catalog. A new multilingual site needs time to be discovered, and neither publication nor sitemap submission guarantees rankings. Review the actual queries to decide which product explanations need improvement.
